May 7, 2024:  St. Paul’s welcomes intern, Gabriel Ervin, who will be here in May and June. During his time here, he will be teaching a small course on the history of the Israeli-Arab Conflict going back to the year 1920.

Gabriel Ervin is an incoming Yale Divinity School student and recent graduate of the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). He has been a delegate to the Annual Conference since 2020 and a lifelong Methodist. During his time at the University of Michigan, he remained active in the Christian community by becoming a member of the Christian Fraternity Beta Upsilon Chi (BYX) and by minoring in History and Religion, with a focus on Second Temple Judaism and early Christianity, including a class where he had to memorize the layout of Jerusalem circa 30AD. His area of focus in Divinity School will be the Early Church and its relationship to the modern Church, especially concerning questions of faith and textual literalism. He is a member of the Birmingham First United Methodist Church and has served as liturgist there on a number of occasions, interned for Pastor Elbert, and authored the Children’s Bible Study for Choir Camp since 2022. Additionally, he is focused on getting young people active in the United Methodist Church through outreach, as he saw successfully done in Ann Arbor by a large number of Christian ministries and organizations. During his time here, he will be teaching a small course on the history of the Israeli-Arab Conflict going back to the year 1920. During his free time, he enjoys reading early Church texts, studying history, and keeping up to date on current events.
