June 13, 2024:  June is Wear Orange month for Gun Violence Awareness. Hadiya Pendleton marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. One week later she was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago. Her friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, her favorite color. It is also the color that hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. 40,000 people are killed with guns and 85,000 are shot and wounded every year.
Moms Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. It was started on Facebook after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. We work in our
communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. We know gun violence is preventable and we are committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe.

The local Moms Demand Action group is putting orange ribbons around the lampposts in downtown Rochester for Gun Violence Awareness month in June.
