HUGS for Moms

Wednesdays at 9:30 – 11:15 a.m. in Room 132 (unless otherwise noted)

HUGS observes the Rochester Community Schools calendar. When schools are closed, HUGS will not meet.

To reserve childcare, use the HUGS reservation signup or email Amy Heitman at least 3 business days prior to the first class.

HUGS 2022-2023: God is within her, she will not fall!

H.U.G.S. is St. Paul’s multi-generational Mom’s group.  H.U.G.S. is shorthand for Humor, Understanding, Growth and Support – although we’ve added a few other “s” words along the way, like Sharing, Smiles & Spirituality.  We meet Wednesday mornings at St. Paul’s from 9:30 – 11:15 a.m. unless otherwise noted.  At present, we are unable to offer childcare but are hopeful that we can reinstate this option soon.  In the meantime, feel free to bring your littles along!

We are presently planning on meeting in Room 132, although on nice days, we may chat outside at St Paul’s playground so the littles can play as we enjoy each others’ company (located in the back parking lot by the Education wing).  Our most up to date info will be in our emails and our private FB page.  Please reach out to Sue Evans (suecamevans@yahoo.com) or Steph Walker (stephaniewalker.288@gmail.com) if you’d like to be added.

Our meetings are designed for busy women on the go, so there is little homework, but always great discussions!  Even when we schedule a multi-week series, each week runs independently of the others, so you can join when you can without feeling like you are missing something.  We also plan a few evening events so that our working moms can still plug into HUGS fellowship.

September 2022

HUGS Monthly mission Blessings in a Backpack Rochester (Blessings in a Backpack) We are collecting to provide additional nutrition for these school aged kiddos.  You can bring them to HUGS, drop them off with Sue or Steph [Sue’s house (4657 Fawn Hill Ct, Roch.) & Steph’s house (163 Sugar Pine Rd, RH)] OR bring them to collection box at church.  Wish list: small canned chicken (4.5 – 6 oz size); Knorr pasta sides (alfredo/butter/butter & herb/cheddar broccoli rice); Peanut butter/jelly (small plastic jars); Any type of fruit breakfast bars; Single serving cereals; Single serving fruit cups

7    Mugs & Hugs – OFF CAMPUS – We know the start of the school year can be crazy busy, so we  will ease into the new year with a field trip to Dessert Oasis (336 S MAIN ST ROCHESTER, MI 48307).  Pop over when you can, starting at 9:30 a.m. and staying til 11 a.m. or so.  Kiddos are welcome!  There are always plenty of helping hands to help out with the littles.

14        Meet and Greet – (normal 9:30 start) Room 132 at St. Paul’s.  This starts our official kick-off for anyone too frenzied to meet during our back-to-school chaos!  We look forward to welcoming new faces and catching up with old friends!  We’ll have the official reveal of our 2022-20223 Bible verse, so you won’t want to miss out on the excitement.  Feel free to bring a goodie to share!

21        Looking Inward, Reaching Outward – Join us for fellowship as we identify our monthly service opportunities (both for us and our bigs/littles).  We’ll also share ways to keep energized and poised for encouragement as we go into the craziness of fall with our school aged kiddos.

28        Prayer Stations –  It’s a perfect time to reboot, try out some different prayer/meditation practices and get inspired by our theme verse.  Weather permitting, we’ll travel around St. Paul’s as we practice different ways to connect with God.   Also, to get inspired for the fall rummage sale, we’ll bring in a book or two for a twist on our Swap & Drop!  (If you happen to be looking for certain items in advance of the rummage sale, feel free to post any requests on our FB page).  Bring a book, take a book.   Anything left over can be donated to the rummage sale.

OCTOBER

HUGS Monthly mission: Assistance League’s Operation School Bell TBD

5          Rummage Sale! Come help us sort and organize and as an added bonus to our helpers, do a little pre-shopping as well!  Our regular childcare is available for this week.  Feel free to come as early as 9am or stay for lunch.  Questions?  Contact Kathy Lutey at drlutey2@wowway.com.

12        Crafting & Conversation – We will get our creative juices flowing and actively consider what it means to encourage and lift up fellow moms as Paul directs in 1 Thessalonians 5:11. We will create a reminder to take with us and share with other moms.  This will be an easy “craft” that requires no expertise to complete.  You won’t want to miss it!

19        Meet and Greet – Although friends and guests are always welcome, we thought we’d designate this meeting as an opportunity to invite a new friend to check out what HUGS is all about and have some fun!

26        Fall Fun (Sue’s house 4657 Fawn Hill Ct, Roch) NOTE:  Off-Campus- – Let’s start practicing self-care with a fall treat and fellowship for us!  Inspired by the tip toe into fall, we’ll enjoy cider and doughnuts and fellowship.

NOVEMBER

HUGS Monthly mission:  Rochester Area Neighborhood House (1720 S Livernois Rochester Hills, MI 48307. Rochester Area Neighborhood House)  Restock the school supplies – Neighborhood House patrons will likely be seeking new pencils, pens, notebooks & highlighters once the new semester starts in January.  Let’s collect items this entire month and we’ll take them to the Neighborhood House in December.

2          Gaining Time for GratitudeField trip to Cranberry Lake Park (388 W Predmore Road, Oakland TWP, Michigan 48363)  NOTE:  Off-Campus  Cranberry lake park

Park in the second larger parking lot.  Let’s enjoy the Storybook Garden and prayer labyrinth created by St Paul’s High Schoolers.

9          Growing Our Gratitude – we’ll spend the morning sharing ways we teach our kiddos gratitude and consider how the lessons change as our kiddos age.

16        Giving Gratitude – Sometimes it’s hard to relish what we have when we’re overwhelmed with our to-do list.  Let’s share our HUGS wisdom with other moms who need it.  Feel free to bring a friend for fellowship time.

23     NO HUGS – Enjoy your Thanksgiving with your families!

30     Glowing in Gratitude – As we gear up for Christmas, let’s take a moment to breathe, share sanity saving tips and look at the blessings in our lives that fill us with gratitude.

NOTE:  For future planning – we’ll have HUGS December 7 & 14, and then we are off on Christmas break starting December 21  and will return on January 11.
