Judy Insley and Almost Perfect Acoustic Folk Music Trio
Judy Insley is a writer and performer of songs about personal growth, social justice, environmentalism and our universal connection to everything around us. The release of her CD, “Leaving Home,” resulted in two 2008 Detroit Music Awards nominations for “Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Recording” and “Outstanding Acoustic/ Folk Songwriter.” She has also recorded Satyagraha as a limited edition CD single (2003) and Candles in the Dark with Rhonda Morgan (1993).
She also finished among the top 30 finalists (out of over 600 entries) in the 2008 Great Lakes Songwriting Contest. Her voice is comfortable, instinctive and uniquely emotive. Her skillful guitar playing provides a strong foundation for heartfelt lyrics and flowing melodies, and her stage performance has been described as “purity … honesty … music at its naked purpose; communication transcending words.”
Judy spent her early childhood on 77 acres of rolling Michigan fields surrounded by horses and music, which became her passion in life. After years of performing “cover” tunes and occasional originals in various folk/rock bands, duos and trios, she decided to concentrate on her songwriting and step out as a solo artist.
Currently, Judy can be found performing at various local acoustic music venues and Unity churches as a soloist or as the leader of an acoustic/folk trio dubbed Judy Insley and Almost Perfect, featuring Floyd Raeon on vocals, guitar and banjo, and Martin Kramer on vocals, bass and harmonica.
Judy is a member of Southeast Michigan’s Songwriters Anonymous collective. In addition to songwriting and performing, she also teaches acoustic guitar and mandolin. She is a graduate of the Recording Institute of Detroit and has a Master of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University
